TEACHING UMFUNDALAI

Empowering Artists with Holistic African Dance Pedagogy

While there are three credentials for teaching the Umfundalai technique of contemporary African Dance, two of them have tarining programs associated with them.  The Umfundalai Teachers’ training prepares artists to not only teach Umfundalai’s Pan-African movement system, but to share African culture in holistic and intentional ways. Certification and Licensing are statements of students’ aptitude in the following competencies.

  3. Philosophy (Aesthetics)

  4. Pedagogy

Umfndalai Teaching Credentials

M'Singha Wuti License

The M'Singha Wuti License credentials an artist to share Umfundalai with amateur/recreational dance communities including but not limited to dance ministries, extracurricular arts exposure programs, senior dance communities, etc.   The license is good for one year and can be renewed.   M'Singha Wuti trained artists are strongly encouraged to pursue Professional Certification.
 

Basic Requirements

  • Successful completion of M'Singha Wuti Training Program. (Usually in January)

  • Attendance to Umfundalai's annual Nanigo (Usually June)

  • Purchase of the Iwé Illanan: Umfundalai Teachers' Handbook.

Professional Teaching  Certification

Certfication in Professional Umfundalai teaching credential artists to share Umfundalai to professional dance companies, conferences, colleges, universities, etc.

Dance Master/ Master  Teacher
